The use of common resources should be in the interest of weaker section of society was the prime insistence of late P.B.Samant. He was the first to utilize the instrument of ‘Public Interest Litigation’ for this cause. In salutation to memory of late Baburao (P.B.) Samant, a new event of presenting “Sangharsh Puraskar” was started since the year 2010.

The first recipient of this award is a militant social worker Shri Chetan Kamble from Aurangabad. Shri Chetan Kamble used the instrument of Public Interest Litigation and Right to Information to expose the unauthorized liquor shops, the project to produce liquor from grain and petrol pump distribution scam etc. Through persistent efforts of approaching the courts and it still continues.

The award consists of a souvenir and the sum of Rs. Fifty Thousand.
